About DiveInSTEAM

"You can't be what you can't see."— Marian Wright Edelman

DiveInSTEAM is a not-for-profit initiative building diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics by giving students early exposure, mentoring and practical pathways into future careers.

Background

What’s in the name? DiveInSTEAM means helping students dive into opportunity early, not wait until late in school to discover what is possible. The name reflects action, belonging and confidence: students are invited to participate, not just observe.

Our approach was inspired by the line, “You can’t be what you can’t see,” coined by activist Marian Wright Edelman. We make STEAM visible through mentors, real stories and real-world exposure.

DiveInSTEAM was founded to bridge the opportunity gap for CALD and underrepresented students who often do not see role models in STEAM. Many of the students we support are still building confidence in English while also shaping career dreams, so we combine language confidence, identity and career exposure at the same time rather than one after the other.

Our approach combines one-to-one mentoring, school visits, university and industry exposure, and culturally responsive engagement with parents and communities.
